The subject of this webinar was the availability and capability of UAS - Unmanned Air Systems, or “drones” in the media parlance - is something that emergency managers need to be on top of, in order to capitalize on the benefits but avoid the pitfalls. What are the basics of these systems, the legality issues, and how do we move forward? Presenters included: Steven Jensen, member, Preparedness and Disaster Health Subcouncil, Scientific Advisory Council; program director of the Emergency Services Administration Degree Program at California State University at Long Beach; Ted Ralston, UAS advisor to the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center; and Ray Tsuchiyama, deputy director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (NDPTC), a research and training center at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
