Please use good judgment when responding to offers made by companies about possible employment. A couple of IAEM members who posted their resumes on this bulletin board received questionable replies that involved money or personal financial details being requested from the IAEM member. Of course a reputable employer would never ask for any money or payments from applicants, at any point in the recruitment process.

"EM Specialist, PHP"
 
   The PHP (Public Health Preparedness) Emergency Management Specialist is a full time, non-exempt position with benefits working at the Detroit Department of Health Office of Emergency and Public Health Preparedness. The position pays $35,000 annual.

The Emergency Management Specialist provides planning support and administrative assistance related to public health preparedness. Duties include assisting with planning support, such as assembling and distributing plans and procedures, updating emergency contact information, assisting with logistical coordination, assisting with emergency preparedness training, assisting with administrative support, and using various emergency tools such as MI-HAN, E-Team, radios and pagers. The Emergency Management Specialist must be extremely proficient in computers, computer software and Internet applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, email, etc.), communications and other technology. The position requires primarily office work. Minimal travel, including overnight trips, may be required to attend planning meetings, conferences, seminars, and training sessions. The position may require (with little or no notice) working beyond the normally scheduled workweek, modifying existing work schedules, or flexing hours to achieve objectives or respond to emergency or other unusual situations.

The position requires skill in planning and organizing work activities to meet established objectives within established deadlines; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment; ability to operate in stressful emergency conditions; excellent verbal and written communication skills; skill in administrative coordination; and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of emergency management and/or public health preparedness is preferred.
