The IAEM Annual Conference provides a forum for current trends and topics, information about the latest tools and technology in emergency management and homeland security, and advances IAEM committee work. Sessions encourage stakeholders at all levels of government, the private sector, public health and related professions to exchange ideas on collaborating to protect lives and property from disaster. If you are an emergency manager, homeland security official, first response coordinator, private industry risk manager or contingency planner, you will not want to miss the IAEM 57th Annual Conference & EMEX 2009.

- – Craig Fugate – FEMA Administrator since May 2009, he was previously Director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management.
- Amanda Ripley has traveled the world studying disasters, natural and man-made. Her book The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes, and Why is the first mass-market book to explain how the brain works in disasters, and how we can learn to do better.
- Robert Stevenson is one of the most widely-recognized professional speakers in the world. He is the author of the best-selling book How to Soar Like an Eagle in a World Full of Turkeys.
- Gerald Galloway is a professor of engineering at the University of Maryland. He is a retired U.S. Army Brigadier General and was a Presidential appointee to the Mississippi River Commission. He will explore the public official response to growing losses from hurricanes and floods.
- Dra. Ana Lucia Hill Mayoral, is Director General of Civil Protection at the Ministry of Governance in Mexico, will address important aspects of the H1N1 epidemic flu, including what Mexico is doing to prepare for a second outbreak.
- Infrastructure. This track will include presentations on the basic physical structures needed to sustain modern life. Traditional forms of infrastructure would include roads, water supply, and sewer systems, power grids, information technology and communications.
- Organizations and Management. Presentations in this track will examine management theories and practices and may explore components of management including planning, organizing, and staffing. Presentations may also discuss evolving trends in Emergency Management, hazards (climate change, etc).
- Disaster-Related Social Behavior. This track will delve into behavior at the individual, organizational, community and mass media levels.
- Technology. This track will explore the use of technology to facilitate any of the phases of emergency management.
- Leadership and the Future of Emergency Management. Presentations in this track will peer into futurist and visionary perspectives of disasters, catastrophes and Emergency Management.
- Contemporary. This track will include information and perspective on recent events, tools, techniques, issues or concerns impacting emergency management.

IAEM Student Members: $200 - The student member rate applies to current IAEM Student Members only. To take advantage of this rate, please join IAEM
as a Student Member prior to registering for the conference.
- Non-Members: $550
IAEM Headquarters is maintaining a list of IAEM student members who wish to receive a student registration fee stipend to attend the IAEM 2009 Annual Conference & EMEX Exhibit, Oct. 31-Nov. 5, 2009, in Orlando, Florida.
Students should e-mail their interest to be considered for the registration fee stipend lottery, along with their complete contact information as well as the university they are attending, to IAEM Membership Director Sharon Kelly at info@iaem.com no later than Sept. 11, 2009. Notifications will be sent via email by the end of September.
: Conference volunteer opportunities will be available again this year to help defray the student registration fee. Complete details will be posted online later this summer.
