IAEM Conference Session:
IAEM President-Elect Mike Selves, IAEM U.S. Government Affairs Committee Chair Bob Bohlmann, and IAEM Policy Advisor Martha Braddock would like for you to participate in a session planned specifically for state association presidents, legislative chairs/liaisons or your designees at the IAEM 2006 Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. The session will be from 1:00 to 3:30 on Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Rosen Center Hotel.
We would very much appreciate your participation in this session and wanted to get this information to you so that you could save the date. If a formal letter would be helpful for your association board, please let us know and include the correct address for such a letter. Some state associations have been more politically active than others with their U.S. Congress representatives. We all have much to learn from each other, and this session has been planned to allow you to benefit from the success and ideas of others and to share your own. We hope you will join us.
The purpose of the session is as follows:
Recently, a number of state EM associations have been working with IAEM’s U.S. Government Affairs Committee and Policy Advisor to engage in some very effective and exciting activities aimed at educating and influencing members of Congress on EM-related issues. State association presidents, legislative chairs or designated representatives are urged to attend this pre-conference session on how to plan and implement a congressional action effort in their own states. IAEM Policy Advisor Martha Braddock will facilitate this workshop, which will include basic concepts of legislative liaison along with the hands-on experiences of state association officials who have developed very effective programs. Officials from the Alabama, Mississippi and North Carolina EM associations will be available to discuss their experiences and to answer questions.
