Committee Mission

The mission of the Membership and Marketing Committee is to develop strategies for increasing the membership worldwide, sustaining existing members, and taking the association to new markets and venues.

Welcome to the Membership and Marketing Committee Web page. This committee is truly the heart and soul of the association. Without members, we don't exist. We are working with a variety of other committees to develop exciting possibilities for growth in America and around the world.

Ongoing Committee Activities

  • The IAEM Board of Directors, taking the recommendations of the International Development Committee, has voted that any country or cluster of countries who reach 75 members will become their own "region" with a place on the Board of Directors. We are closely working with the IDC to foster planning and organization, as well as marketing for new regions. Currently, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the European Union and Australia-New Zealand (and surrounding islands) are areas of great interest and growth.
  • Colleges and universities that have emergency management related programs (120 in the US, and some 40 around the world) are invited to form chapters of the IAEM Student Association. We assist these colleges with information and help them through the application process with the goal of forming chapters that can network and assist students in their search for a career in emergency management.

Committee Set-Up

The committee is structured with the goal of having at least two members from each region. These members should, in turn, advise their Regional Presidents on matters relating to recruiting and marketing IAEM within their regions. To ensure a world view, either the chair or the vice-chair should be from outside the United States.

We welcome your membership. We meet twice a year in-person at the IAEM Annual Conference in November and at the IAEM Mid-Year Meeting in June. We meet "virtually" as a committee quarterly, and by e-mail as required. We also post documents here on the Web site for review and comment.

Ongoing Initiatives:

  • Grow the organization to 5,000 members.
  • Explore the creation of specialty groupings within IAEM for practitioners in professions such as: fire, law enforcement, public health, private sector, military, etc.
  • Develop a recruiting/referral incentives plan to reward members for promoting IAEM.
  • Double the number of IAEM student association chapters.
  • Conduct a membership survey to analyze where the profession stands with regard to issues such as pay, hours, gender and other demographics.

Your Invitation

We can use your marketing savvy, your energy, your insight, and even your criticism. Even if you don't join the committee, you can join our mission. Feel free to e-mail us with your good ideas, observations, lessons learned, and concerns. We only improve when we work through issues, confront the status quo, and move toward the future. We have got to show you a value for your membership. It's not only our job...it's our pledge.
