Committee Mission

Charged by the IAEM Board of Directors to analyze the training and educational needs of our profession, upgrade professional standards, participate in the development of training programs affecting emergency management, and serve as a clearinghouse for information on educational technologies, programs and resources at the local, state and federal levels of emergency management.

Ongoing Committee Work

Welcome to the Training and Education Committee Web page. As our mission statement says above, we are dedicated to expanding and improving the educational opportunities for our members and the profession. Ongoing topics include:

  • Coordination and cooperation with The Weather Channel and their Storm Safe Initiative to provide students from middle school and up an "EOC experience" while learning about all-hazards preparedness.
  • Exploration of a system to validate the 120 post-secondary EM degree and certificate programs across the US and internationally.
  • Facilitation of the development of a Common Body of Knowledge, which is necessary for emergency managers around the world as well as the competencies of the profession.
  • We welcome your participation and hope to see you at the next IAEM Mid-Year Meeting in June 2007 (Alexandria, Virginia) and at the IAEM Annual Conference in November 2007 (Reno, Nevada).
