The American Public University System has a large and very active IAEM Student Chapter now in its fourth year. There are over 230 members and growing. The leadership is provided by the elected Chapter Executive, which includes Craig Mercier, President; Amanda Metzger, Vice President; Allen Straub, Secretary; and Karyn Harwood-Myers, Treasurer. The Faculty advisor is Dr. Karen Cieslewicz, M.D., and the Program Director is Dr. Terri Wilkin, Esq. The APUS/IEMSA Chapter is in fact, the largest Student Chapter, and is the recipient of the 2009 and 2010 Chapter of the Year Awards, and also received the Advisor of the Year Award for Dr. Chris Reynolds, CEM.

Nearly 85% of APUS's students are in the military, and many more students are in first responder local agencies. APUS IEMSA's primary goals are to provide service to the community and university, benefits to student members, and eventual transition to IAEM as regular members. For APUS students, "community" and "sharing" are key elements to the educational experience.
