Region 6 Vice President
Members of IAEM-USA Region 6 attended the annual regional meeting on Apr. 20, 2012, at the Arkansas Tech University (ATU) Department of Emergency Management. The meeting attracted members from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as student members from ATU and Arkansas State University (ASU).
Speakers presented on topics that included: the role of FUSION Centers and Infragard in terrorism detection and deterrence; career opportunities for future graduates; and business continuity and emergency management. George Cossey, CEM, presented an informational session on the steps required in obtaining the CEM®. Matt Burks and Nathan Spicer, CEM, of Little Rock Emergency Management, and George Cossey, CEM, led a panel discussion on trends and opportunities in emergency management. Additional panel members included Ron Crane, Emergency Preparedness Manager, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and James DeHaven, CEM, INTEGRIS Health Oklahoma.
Additional speakers included Dr. Richard Idhe, ATU Department of Emergency Management, and Amy Fecher, Arkansas State Director of Save the Children. Plans for the 2013 meeting will be forthcoming this fall.

The meeting includes lunch and snacks, several speakers, and a discussion on steps to obtain the CEM®. This is the third year for our meeting, and we always have an excellent turnout. Space is limited, it is important to RSVP to Doug Brown, IAEM-USA Region 6 Vice President, at dbrown1@atu.edu. Cost is $25.00 per person, which pays for the very nice buffet that Tech has agreed to help us with providing. Students, IAEM members, and non-members are invited to attend.

An online election was held for IAEM-USA Region 6 President from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1, 2010. A total of 14 Region 6 members voted in the election. Robie Robinson was reelected as President of Region 6. His new two-year term of office will begin during the IAEM 58th Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 2010.
