REGION 3 CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES
Over 100 participants joined in the Region 3 first joint regional conference, held September 19th in collaboration with FEMA Region 3. The conference was held in Fairfax, Virginia. FEMA Region 3 Administrator Maryann Tierney and Kathleen Henning, President Region 3 IAEM-USA were the keynote speakers. The theme for the conference was "A Time to Remember, Time to Prepare- Whole Community Planning Workshop."
- FEMA Region 3 Administrator Mary Ann Tierney gave an excellent program on current priorities for FEMA and Whole Community Planning Initiatives, and Grant updates. Unfortunately Sheree Fugate, our invited guest speaker, was not able to come at the last minute due to illness.
- Executive Director Beth Armstrong and Region 3 President Kathee Henning each gave presentations on IAEM, updates on programs, and our relationship to FEMA.
- IAEM Policy Advisor Martha Braddock held a workshop on legislative updates.
- Topics included presentations from PA, VA, and MD on the recent hurricane and flooding declarations.
- Ollie Davidson facilitated a workshop on public and private partnerships.
- CERT, Children in Disaster Commission Report, University and Colleges, and other subjects related to Whole Community Planning were all well attended.
- VDOT was a sponsor by offering the facility to Region 3 at no charge.
- Dewberry Consulting was the platinum donor by covering all the meal costs and some supplies.
- Display areas were set up by IAEM and FEMA.
- Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to all speakers.
- Ken Rudnicki, Region 3 Secretary, was awarded an IAEM Challenge coin for his outstanding efforts in organizing the location and donor activities.
- The conference was given very high marks by attendees and overwhelmingly they applauded the program, and requested that the conference be repeated again next year.
