IEMSA FORMAL CHARTER REQUIREMENTS
If a potential chapter already meets the requirements for a formal charter, it may apply for the formal charter without having previously applied for provisional chapter status.
The requirements for a formal charter include:
Chapters applying for a formal charter that had not been previously awarded provisional chapter status need to include a list of 10 student members who have declared their major, minor, or equivalent in an emergency management related field leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree.
Provide proof of completion of school’s requirement to become a recognized student association or written approval by the appropriate level of school administration to form the chapter.
Develop and adopt chapter bylaws. Contact the Student Region secretary at iaemstudentregion@gmail.com for language that needs to be incorporated into your chapter bylaws. A copy of the adopted bylaws needs to be included in the application packet.
IAEM requires local chapter members to be student members of IAEM. IAEM student member dues are $25 per student annually.
- The local chapter may establish dues beyond the $25 per student rate. Dues collected beyond the $25 rate are the responsibility of the local chapters.
- The local chapter is responsible for collecting the annual $25 dues and membership forms from its members.
- IAEM will send invoices for the student members to the local chapters.
- The dues and forms will be provided back to IAEM by Sept. 15 of each year.
- Local chapters are responsible for notifying IAEM when students graduate.
Elect officers in accordance with adopted bylaws. The officers should include at a minimum:
President
Vice President (or President Elect)
Secretary
Treasurer
The faculty advisor and the chapter officers must be members of IAEM in good standing. Members must be in good standing to be elected as a chapter officer.
Complete and submit a chapter profile.
Conduct at least five (5) meetings, and submit copies of the minutes.
Submit the required non-profit status information (see chapter profile).
Submit the required financial report, including a list of the chapter’s current assets and liabilities (if any).
When the request for charter is approved, the association and the chapter will sign a charter agreement, and the chapter will receive a charter certificate.
