IAEM-OCEANIA STUDENT REGION
(18 October 2009)
Daniel Dwyer, a student at Charles Sturt University in Australia has been appointed the Vice President of the Oceania Student Region. Daniel joined IAEM in 2008, but has been involved in the emergency management field and community for the past 10 years, in both paid and voluntary roles. Based in Sydney in New South Wales, Daniel’s emergency management experience has included public relations and communication, and frontline emergency management (as a volunteer with the NSW Rural Fire Service, and a retained firefighter with the NSW Fire Brigades). This experience has also included being deployed as a member of a task force from the NSW Fire Brigades assigned to the recent Victorian bushfires.
Daniel works as a solicitor for Freehills, one of Australia’s largest corporate law firms. He is currently in his final year of his Masters of Emergency Management at Charles Sturt University, which will complement a Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Communications), Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Master of Laws (International Business and Economics). Prior to embarking upon his legal career, Daniel has been involved as an IT Manager, systems analyst and project manager for both Federal and State government departments, for a variety of projects.
Daniel is one of the founding directors of Network Kokoda, a charity focused on the plight of the people of Papua New Guinea. He has also recently joined Kenyon International. Daniel has a passion for best practice in all aspects of his career (law, IT and emergency management) and looks forward to assisting the Oceania Student Region in raising the profile of IAEM in non-government organisations, tertiary education institutions and frontline emergency management and response organisations.
(14 September 2009) Creation of the IAEM-Oceania Student Region has been approved by the IAEM Student Council and the IAEM-Oceania Council. The bylaws for the IAEM-Oceania Student Region were approved by the Oceania Council Executives at their meeting on 4th August 2009. A call for officer nominations will be distributed soon, and an online election will be held to elect officers for the IAEM-Oceania Student Region.
