IAEM 2007 AWARDS program
IAEM is pleased to announce the winners of the IAEM 2007 Career Excellence Award, the Academic Recognition Award, Executive Citations, Presidential Citations, Certificates of Appreciation, Honorary Citations, and the Clayton R. Christopher Award. These awards were presented at the IAEM 55th Annual Conference & EMEX 2007 in Reno, along with the 2007 awards previously announced on Oct. 19. Alan Clive, Ph.D., received the Career Excellence Award, and James Smith, Ph.D., was presented with the Academic Recognition Award. Dewayne West, CEM, received Region 4's Clayton R. (08/14/07) The International Association of Emergency Managers announces the newly updated IAEM 2007 Awards Program, as approved by the IAEM Board of Directors. Nominations are being accepted now and must be received at IAEM HQ via e-mail to info@iaem.com no later than Sept. 20, 2007 using the official nomination form provided for download here. The official nomination form must be submitted electronically, as well as any supporting materials that can be e-mailed.
: If you have supporting materials (printed documents) that cannot be sent via e-mail, please e-mail your official nomination form to info@iaem.com, and then mail eight (8) copies of your printed supporting materials to IAEM Membership Director Sharon Kelly at IAEM, 201 Park Washington Ct., Falls Church, VA 22046-4527. We must have eight (8) copies of printed supporting documents, because the IAEM 2007 Awards nominations are being judged remotely by our judging panel from many different locations.

IAEM 2007 Awards Program
The IAEM Awards & Recognition Committee has completed a year-long project to update the IAEM Awards Program structure to reflect a more contemporary trend in the professional awards process and enhance the value of awards granted by the association. Thanks are due to Jamie Moore and Phyllis Mann for their dedication to this project.
The following IAEM Awards are now open for nominations from IAEM members (at no charge as an IAEM member benefit) and from non-members with an entry fee. Winners of these awards are selected by the IAEM Awards & Recognition Committee prior to the IAEM Annual Conference.
- Career Excellence Award – recognizes a national/international leader who has made significant contributions throughout his/her career to promote and improve the emergency management profession.
- Academic Recognition Award - recognizes an academic leader or institution that has made a significant contribution to the formal education of students pursuing a career in emergency management or through research and development of paradigms or standards that have helped shape the broader field of emergency and disaster management.
- Public Awareness Award (newsletters, publications, public awareness campaigns, audiovisual products, public service announcements) - recognizes outstanding public awareness programs or public education products related to emergency management, homeland security, and/or disaster preparedness. (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
Public Awareness Award Divisions
- Division 1: Local Emergency Management Agency
- Division 2: State/Regional/National Government, International, or Non-Profit Organization (such as colleges/universities or associations)
- Division 3: Commercial or Other For-Profit Organizations
- Technology and Innovation Award (software/hardware, equipment, databases, freeware, Web sites) - recognizes the development of technology and innovation to improve emergency management operations, public education, or the emergency management/homeland security field (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
Technology and Innovation Award Divisions
- Division 1: Local Emergency Management Agency
- Division 2: State/Regional/National Government, International, or Non-Profit Organization
- Division 3: Commercial or Other For-Profit Organizations (such as colleges/universities or associations)
- Partners in Preparedness Award (Public/Private Partnership). Recognizes programs or processes that demonstrate innovative, multi-participant involvement between local governments/governmental entities and private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations/non-profits, or individuals which have resulted in effective and efficient incident management, emergency management or homeland security processes. Two plaques are given, one for the local government agency and one for the supporting industry partner. Multiple awards may be granted at the discretion of the judging panel.
- Business and Industry Preparedness Award - based on excellence in implementing a program that plans for multiple hazards, sets implementation priorities, is cost effective, links all levels of the organization, and coordinates with local emergency response and management agencies. The program must be repeatable by similar organizations in business and industry. (Only the most outstanding nominee for each year will be given this award.)
