IAEM-USA 2011 uniformed services AWARDS competition

The IAEM-USA Awards & Recognition Committee, in partnership with the IAEM-USA Uniformed Services Caucus, announces that nominations are now being accepted for the 2011 IAEM-USA Uniformed Services Awards. Nominations are open to members of the U.S. Armed Services, including U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and NOAA Commissioned Corps.
The IAEM-USA Uniformed Services Awards recognize individuals serving in the Uniformed Services of the United States who have consistently demonstrated significant contributions to the field of emergency management while continuously self-developing as emergency managers. Two awards are offered:
- IAEM-USA Uniformed Services: Uniformed Member of the Year Award. Uniformed members may be Active Duty, Guard, Reservists or Auxiliary members.
- IAEM-USA Uniformed Services: Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year Award. Civilians may include civil service or service contractors.
Guidelines for Nomination Packages
- Self-nominations are not allowed.
- The nominee should be performing emergency management as his/her primary function.
- The nomination package must include three (3) components:
- A one-page description of the nominated individual’s significant achievements and contributions.
- A letter of recommendation from the nominee’s commanding officer.
- A cover letter with complete contact information for both the nominee and the nominator.
- The one-page description of the nominated individual must describe his/her significant achievements and contributions within ALL of the following seven (7) areas:
- Accomplishment
- Job Performance
- Technical Competence
- Leadership Ability
- Initiative
- Resourcefulness
- Other
- Use bullet statements to show what the nominee accomplished, including specific results under the appropriate headings and same sequence as shown above for each of the seven (7) areas. If nominations do not follow subject headings as described, the judges may refuse to score the nomination.
- Limit the description of accomplishments to one page (abbreviations can be submitted on a separate page). Nominations exceeding the one-page limit will not be considered in the award competition.
- Use only Times New Roman font type, 10 or 12 font size.
- Include only accomplishments and activities performed or honors received for actions accomplished during the period of Jan. 1, 2010 through Dec. 31, 2010.
- Nominations will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
- Nominations must be submitted via email to IAEM Awards Competition Staff Liaison Karen Thompson at Thompson@iaem.com.
The winners of the IAEM-USA 2011 Uniformed Services Awards will be announced by the IAEM-USA Awards & Recognition Committee in mid to late October 2011. The awards will be presented at the IAEM-USA 2011 Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
