2012 IAEM-USA Academic Recognition Award
The 2012 IAEM-USA Academic Recognition Award winner is Dr. Jane Kushma, for her dedication to the creation and implementation of a doctoral program in emergency management. Dr. Kushma wanted to create a program with high standards that also enables all emergency management professionals to have the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree through the online format. In 2011, the Department of Emergency Management at Jacksonville State University welcomed its first class of doctoral students, who at the end of the year, stated that Dr. Kushma’s efforts have changed their lives. The Academic Recognition Award recognizes a U.S. academic leader or institution that has made a significant contribution to the formal education of students pursuing a career in emergency management or through research and development of paradigms or standards that have helped shape the broader field of emergency and disaster management.

2012 IAEM-USA Business & Industry Preparedness Award
The 2012 IAEM-USA Business & Industry Preparedness Award winner is Target’s Corporate Command Center India Project Team. The Business & Industry Preparedness Award is based on excellence in implementing a program that plans for multiple hazards, sets implementation priorities, is cost effective, links all levels of the organization, and coordinates with local emergency response and management agencies. The program must be repeatable by similar organizations in business and industry.

2012 IAEM-USA Partners in Preparedness Award
The 2012 IAEM-USA Partners in Preparedness Award winner is Operation SMART EXIT (OSE), a full-scale exercise involving the evacuation of the ten largest commercial high-buildings in Downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The City of Providence Emergency Management Agency partnered with multiple private partners, professional building managers, state and federal agencies, volunteers and the public to plan and conduct this exercise. This entry went on to win the 2012 IAEM-Global Partners in Preparedness Award.
2012 IAEM-USA Public Awareness Award Winners
The IAEM-Global Public Awareness Awards recognize programs or processes that demonstrate innovative, multi-participant involvement between local governments/governmental entities and private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations/non-profits, or individuals which have resulted in effective and efficient incident management, emergency management or homeland secu rity processes. The 2012 winners are:
- Division 1 (Local Emergency Management Agency)
- First Place: Ramsey County (Minnesota) Emergency Management & Homeland Security, for its "Get Ready Gopher" Campaign.g the public about the actions to take in the event of a local tsunami.
- Division 2 (State/Regional National Government, Intern
ational, or Non-Profit Organization):
- First Place: Metropolitan Emergency Manager’s Committee (MEMC), for its Tale of Disaster and Preparedness video series. This entry went on to win the 2012 IAEM-Global Public Awareness Award (Division 2).

The IAEM-USA Technology & Innovation Awards recognize the development of technology and innovation to improve emergency management operatio ns, public education, or the emergency management/homeland security field. The 2012 winners are:
- Division 1 (Local Emergency Management Agency)
- First Place: Pierce County (Washington) Department of Emergency Management for its Damage Assessment Mobile Application. This entry went on to win the 2012 IAEM-Global Public Awareness Award (Division 1).
