2011 IAEM-Global Partners in Preparedness Award

The IAEM-Global Partners in Preparedness Award recognizes programs or processes that demonstrate innovative, multi-participant involvement between local governments/governmental entities and private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations/non-profits, or individuals which have resulted in effective and efficient incident management, emergency management or homeland security processes. The 2011 winner is the Texas Emergency Tracking Network for its cooperative data-sharing project. Partners included: Texas Dept of State Health Services, Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council, Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council, Sabine-Neches Chief’s Association, University of Texas Center for Space Research; and Radiant RFID, LLC. entry form

2011 IAEM-Global Business & Industry Preparedness Award Winner

The IAEM-Global Business & Industry Preparedness Award is based on excellence in implementing a program that plans for multiple hazards, sets implementation priorities, is cost effective, links all levels of the organization, and coordinates with local emergency response and management agencies. The program must be repeatable by similar organizations in business and industry. 2011 IAEM-Global Public Awareness Award Winners

The IAEM-Global Public Awareness Awards recognize programs or processes that demonstrate innovative, multi-participant involvement between local governments/governmental entities and private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations/non-profits, or individuals which have resulted in effective and efficient incident management, emergency management or homeland security processes. The 2011 winners are:

  • Division 1 (Local Emergency Management Agency)
    • First Place: Victoria (BC) Emergency Management Agency for its “Prepare Victoria” public awareness campaign. entry form | supporting document
    • Second Place: Arlington Co. (VA) Office of Emergency Management for its monthly preparedness campaign via the Washington DC subway system (METRO). entry form
  • Division 2 (State/Regional National Government, International, or Non-Profit Organization):

2011 IAEM-Global Technology & Innovation Award Winners

The IAEM-Global Technology & Innovation Awards recognize the development of technology and innovation to improve emergency management operations, public education, or the emergency management/homeland security field. The 2011 winners are:

  • Division 2 (State/Regional National Government, International, or Non-Profit Organization):
    • First Place: The Libya Crisis Map, In recognition of the partnership between the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), NetHope, the Stand-By Volunteer Task Force, and UN Volunteers led by Andrej Verity from UN OCHA in creating the Libya Crisis Map in order to provide a common operational picture based on social media, traditional media, and reports from humanitarian organizations, so that the humanitarian community had a tool to understand a rapidly evolving situation and provide valuable assistance to the affected communities of refugees fleeing civil war in Libya to surrounding nations. entry form

2011 IAEM-Europa Principles of Emergency Management (POEM) Application Award Winner

New for 2011, the IAEM-Europa Principles of Emergency Management Application Award recognizes the project that best demonstrates the application of the Principles of Emergency Management in its delivery. The 2011 winner is the Ambatovy Project and Safety Centre Europe, in recognition of their partnership in the building and application of the Principles of Emergency Management (POEM) into the Ambatovy Project’s crisis and emergency plans, practices, and exercises, in order to establish a culture within Ambatovy’s emergency response structure that recognizes the needs of its wider community. entry form | supporting document

2011 IAEM-USA Academic Recognition Award Winner

The IAEM-USA Academic Recognition Award recognizes a U.S. academic leader or institution that has made a significant contribution to the formal education of students pursuing a career in emergency management or through research and development of paradigms or standards that have helped shape the broader field of emergency and disaster management.
