2009-2010 scholarship Awardees
The IAEM Scholarship
Commission awarded scholarships to three students in emergency management and related programs for the 2009-2010 school year. Congratulations to IAEM's scholarship winners for 2009-2010!
Scholarship Recipient Profiles
- Pamela Fikes, the recipient of the $2,500 DRI International Lacy Suiter Emergency Management Scholarship, completed her bachelor of science degree in emergency management with a minor in homeland security in August 2009 and is currently working toward a M.S. in emergency management at Jacksonville State University. She has worked for the state of Alabama for almost 24 years and is currently the manager of the local Employment Service Office. She is a volunteer with her local chapter of the American Red Cross and is their disaster field coordinator. This award was funded fully by DRI International.
- Lisa Cockerill is working toward a master’s degree in disaster and emergency management at Royal Roads University in Canada. For more than 12 years, her career has been focused on fire and life safety. She started as a Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Certified Fire Alarm Technician. She was a fire marshal at Princess Margaret Hospital and a fire inspector at York University. Lisa received a $2,000 IAEM Scholarship.
- Lawrence St. George is the second recipient of the $1,000 Command Sergeant Major L. Ken Fisher Emergency Management Scholarship. He is working toward a M.S. in homeland security management at Long Island University. Lawrence is currently employed as an assistant to the Clinton County, Mich., emergency management coordinator and serves as a disaster generalist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This scholarship was funded fully by ResponseForce 1 Corporation.
