2006-2007 scholarship Awardees
The International Association
of Emergency
Managers
Scholarship Program awarded
scholarships to three students in
emergency management and
related programs. The awards were
for the 2006-2007 school year.
DRI International provided the
funding dedicated to two of the
scholarships. The DRI International
funded scholarships were
awarded to William Colt Hagmaier
and Terrance Lofgreen. Erin
Edmundson received a scholarship
awarded from the IAEM general
scholarship fund.
- William Colt Hagmaier is working
toward a master’s degree in emergency management at Anna Maria College in Massachusetts.
While completing his degree, he is
serving as the emergency management
coordinator for Harvard
University. At sixteen, he joined his local rescue squad, and during high school he developed a public
access defibrillation program for his county school system. He
graduated from the University of Virginia. While at the university as
a full-time undergraduate student, he obtained his medic certification
and continued volunteering with three different rescue squads and
a search/rescue group. During his final two years at the University of
Virginia, he worked part-time in the emergency department for the
university medical center and also earned certification as an Emergency
Medical Technician Instructor.
Hagmaier will graduate in
2007. He was elected as IAEM Student Region Treasurer for 2006-2007.
- Terrance Lofgreen is working
toward an associate’s degree in
emergency management at Clover
Park Technical College. He hopes
to transfer to Western Washington
University to pursue a bachelor’s
degree. For the past three years,
Lofgreen has been a volunteer
firefighter/EMT for the Steilacoom
Department of Public Safety. He
currently is participating in an
internship at Pierce County
Department of Emergency Management.
Lofgreen has spoken at
schools about the importance of
fire prevention, organized the 2005
Safety Fair, and provided fire
station tours to students. He plans
to graduate in December 2006.
- Erin
Edmundson was awarded $1,000
from the IAEM general scholarship
fund. She is working toward a
master’s of public administration
degree at Dalhousie University in
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She
became interested in emergency
management while working on her
undergraduate degree and taking
physical geography courses. She
has focused her papers and
research in the MPA program on
emergency response and management.
Edmundson currently is a
volunteer with the local Halifax
Red Cross Emergency Response
Team. Outside of school and
volunteer activities, she has
completed a two-month contract
for Mount Saint Vincent University
as a pandemic planning assistant.
Ms. Edmundson plans to graduate
in May 2007.
