2001-2002 scholarship AwardeeS
In 2000, following the very first IAEM Scholarship Program auction (which raised more than $7,000 for scholarships), Bob Durgin, CEM, donated $500 to the fledgling IAEM Scholarship Fund. The IAEM
Board approved a $500 scholarship to
be awarded in 2001. This very first IAEM scholarship
was named the 2001 IAEM Durgin
Scholarship Award.
The IAEM Scholarship Commission awarded the $500 2001 IAEM Durgin Scholarship to Jamie Moore, a student at the University of North Texas, for the 2001-2002 school year. Moore is a full
time student majoring in emergency administration and planning. His graduation is planned
for December 2001.
Moore was a paramedic for six
years prior to exploring the field of
emergency management in college.
While a student, he has been an
intern for one year for the City of
Plano, Texas. During that time, he
helped develop a hazard and
vulnerability analysis to help the
community better identify
particular hazard agents. He also
helped secure a $300,000 WMD
Grant to provide training and
equipment to first responders.
Along with Jamie’s academic
studies, he participates in the
Denton and Collin County LEPCs.
He also gained educational
experience by co-writing a
research paper with Dr. David
McEntire, the Emergency
Administration and Planning
Coordinator for the University of
North Texas. Jamie is a member of
the Emergency Management
Association of Texas, IAEM,
IEMSA, and the Tau Sigma Honor
Society.
