The Emergency Services Coalition for Medical Preparedness was formed to lead the development of a national strategy to protect providers in the event of a large-scale biological event. The Coalition draws support from all emergency services associations, and over three million providers.

The Coalition held its Annual Meeting (Countermeasures 2.0) in Orlando, Florida, on Oct. 26, 2012, at the Rosen Center Hotel, in conjunction with the International Association of Emergency Mangers (IAEM)’s 60th annual gathering. The program included speakers from all emergency services disciplines, and perspectives from local to international.
The meeting was called to speed up progress toward “protecting the protectors,” acknowledging that without a protected emergency services sector, all other aspects of our civil society are less resilient. The outcomes from the meeting were to be:
- The development a two- and five-year agenda for protecting emergency services.
- Prioritization of the contents of an emergency services medkit.
- Confirmation of the vaccination schedule for emergency services.
- The collection national level practices for distributing stockpiles and addressing critical drug shortages among emergency services
