IAEM-USA Training & Education Committee Releases
Internship Guide for Employers (15 Oct 2012) The IAEM-USA Training & Education Committee announces the release of a new
publication, the "IAEM Internship Guidelines for Employers." The Guide provides
helpful facts and ideas that organizations, both small and large, can use to
develop and manage an internship program that is beneficial to both the employer
and the intern. Included in the Guide is a summary of organizational
responsibilities which includes: guidance for creating the intern position;
developing the position description; and interviewing, assigning and managing
interns. Links to other helpful resources are also part of the Guide. Download the "IAEM Internship Guide for Employers" here.
Ongoing Committee Work
As our mission statement says above, we are dedicated to expanding and improving the educational opportunities for our members and the profession. Ongoing topics include:
- Coordination and cooperation with The Weather Channel and their Storm Safe Initiative to provide students from middle school and up an "EOC experience" while learning about all-hazards preparedness.
- Exploration of a system to validate the 120 post-secondary EM degree and certificate programs across the United States and internationally.
- Facilitation of the development of a Common Body of Knowledge, which is necessary for emergency managers around the world as well as the competencies of the profession.
