Caucus Mission

Purpose

The IAEM-USA Emergency Services Caucus provides a repository of subject matter experts who serve in an advisor capacity to the IAEM Board of Directors.

The Emergency Services Caucus has four primary roles:

1. To review recommendations, documents, plans, etc. and provide subject matter expertise through analysis and evaluation as requested by the IAEM Board.
2. To provide ESS representation and subject matter expertise for IAEM in meetings and work groups as requested by the Board.
3. To assist in the creation of State and Federal preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery plans as the opportunity arises.
4. To review and provide input for draft State, Federal and National initiatives and advise the IAEM board and members regarding such plans.

Secondary Roles: 

1. Identify and communicate events, issues, and initiatives occuring within the respective disciplines that relate to the integrated emergency management process
2. Provision of a forum for sharing of best practices between the vvarious disciplines represented.

Our Mission is accomplished by soliciting a large body of members and categorizing them based on years in the profession or knowledge in the field.  Separating 'years in profession' from 'knowledge in the field' ensures that experts in academia, who may not have worked directly in the profesion, are not left out of the process. 

In addition, other IAEM Caucuses or Committees, such as Universities and Colleges, Special Needs, etc. are solicited for input when appropriate.  Spreading the workload across many caucus members with diverse backgrounds and utilizing a combined practitioner/academia approach provides a high quality work product.
